“You are truly going, then?” Dunair asked.
“At last.”
“To Algarath?”
“To Algarath.”
“With her?”
“With Serra.”

Dunair glanced toward Serra and lowered his voice. “She looks dangerous.”
“She is.”
“Is that wise?”
“No.”
“Are you going anyway?”
“Yes.”

“Keep the counts,” Atser said.
“Keep alive,” said Dunair.
“I will attempt the less complicated task.”

Serra made a small sound behind him. “You think keeping alive is less complicated than toads?”

Atser picked up his pack. “I understand toads,” he said. “That makes them worse.”
